Longtime Vietnamese-Founded Jewelry Store in Portland to Close

by Henry

A family-owned jewelry store in Northeast Portland, deeply rooted in the city’s Vietnamese community, is preparing to close its doors after more than 40 years in business.

The store was founded by Chuc Nguyen and Ong Vu, who fled Vietnam in 1975 with their four children. Like many others, they escaped following the fall of Saigon, when North Vietnamese forces took control of the South. After initially settling on the Oregon coast, the family moved to Portland in 1977.

There, they opened one of the city’s first Vietnamese grocery stores, marking the beginning of their entrepreneurial journey and contributing to the early growth of Portland’s Vietnamese community.

While the jewelry store’s name and specific closing date have not been shared, its upcoming closure marks the end of an era for a business that served generations of customers and stood as a symbol of resilience and cultural identity.
